Accessing Cancer Care Across the Continuum: A summer webinar series for cancer coalitions

As a training and technical assistance provider for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, the American Cancer Society (ACS) is conducting a summer webinar series in partnership with the ACS National Roundtables​

Join us for any of the webinar series to learn best practices, innovative approaches, and get access to quality resources that will support your coalition efforts to increase access to cancer care across the continuum.

Overcoming Stigma as a Barrier to Equitable Lung Cancer Care

July 10, 2024, 1 - 2 p.m. ET

On July 10, the ACS Comprehensive Cancer Initiative team, in partnership with ACS NLCRT, will discuss the impact of stigma on access to cancer screening and provide suggested strategies to reduce this barrier. Participants in this session will learn:

  • The importance and rationale of person-centered approach to lung cancer screening.
  • How to engage diverse community partners into the lung cancer community.
  • Recommendations for changing the public discourse around lung cancer to create more equitable lung cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Lisa Carter-Bawa, PhD, APRN, ANP-C, FAAN is a behavioral scientist focused on understanding the many factors that influence patient-clinician communication particularly among patients diagnosed with tobacco-related diseases, lung cancer screening behavior and enhancing shared decision-making, and passionate about addressing the stigma that impacts individuals at risk for lung cancer.
  • Dr. Jamie L. Studts, PhD, FSBM is a professor of medicine-medical oncology at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Studts has contributed to research on shared decision-making during lung cancer screening visits, empathic communication skills training to reduce lung cancer stigma, and implementation strategies for cancer prevention and control activities. He has worked on implementing evidence-based tobacco treatment interventions in oncology to achieve optimal outcomes.

Promoting Non-Invasive CRC Screening

August 14, 2024, 1 - 2 p.m. ET

On Aug. 14, the ACS Comprehensive Cancer Initiative team, in partnership with ACS National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, will examine how the promotion of non-invasive cancer screening addresses multiple challenges in CRC screening completion. Speakers will be announced at a later date.
