OWN is the first and only network named for and inspired by a single iconic leader. Oprah Winfrey’s heart and creative instincts inform the brand and the magnetism of the channel. Launched on January 1, 2011, OWN is a joint venture between Harpo, Inc. and Warner Bros. Discovery. The venture also includes the award-winning digital platform Oprah.com. You can access OWN anytime on Max, discovery+, WatchOWN.tv or across mobile devices and connected TVs. A campaign by OWN, OWN Your Health aims to improve the health of Black women by providing resources, education, and community to address the unique health challenges faced by Black women. Key goals are to encourage Black women to prioritize their health and well-being, address the physical, mental, and social/emotional aspects of health, and to provide tools and resources to empower Black women to take proactive approaches to their wellness.
“Despite significant strides in cancer research, Black women continue to have the highest death rate and the shortest survival of any racial or ethnic group in the U.S. for most cancers," said Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, interim chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). "The public's participation in our previous population studies has contributed to landmark discoveries. Partnering with Black women to listen and better understand their diverse lived experiences will give us the valuable data we need to develop tailored solutions."
“We are honored to support VOICES of Black Women in the mission to understand cancer risks and outcomes for Black women, and to provide the essential resources and platform needed to achieve its goal,” said Tina Perry, president of OWN. “Partnering with the American Cancer Society allows us to harness the significant power of OWN's reach – across our linear, social and digital footprint – to support the shared goals of OWN Your Health and the VOICES of Black Women campaign.”
